- Independent University Counselling
From August 2006 until July 2017, I was College Counselor at the International School of Zug and Luzern, Switzerland. During that time, I advised students and their families on global Higher Education options from the UK, USA, Canada, Switzerland, Netherlands, English-speaking options in mainland Europe, Asia, South Africa, Australia, New Zealand… etc. My first question was often ‘what continents are you considering for post-secondary education’?
I currently serve on the board of International Association of College Admissions Counseling as a delegate to the USA parent organisation National Association of College Admissions Counseling. As a member of the Government Relations committee, my special interest is forth-coming Brexit while continuing to ensure an advocacy role for all students for access to Higher Education, promoting understanding of international educational equivalent qualifications.
I’m passionate about education. I read voraciously. Most of all, I believe in advising students (and their families) to make the best possible informed choice for their futures. I believe in ‘fit’ – in helping students discover for themselves where they will be happy and successful. That means open and honest conversations about academic ability and potential, motivation, environment, and, increasingly, cost.
I cannot ‘get you into’ Harvard or Oxbridge (there’s no such thing – Oxford and Cambridge share many commonalities but the courses are very different). But I can help guide you making an informed application to universities and colleges around the world. I can help you improve your writing – whether that be a UK personal statement, a US essay, or a motivational letter, or whatever else you’re asked to produce (watch out - if you’re applying to multiple countries that might be a lot of very different styles and thousands of words to produce). I will always be honest and you may find that uncomfortable at times. But I will always have your best interests at the forefront of any interactions with you.
