CIS is delighted to announce that Mónica Gilbert-Sáez will be joining the Rotterdam International Secondary School as their new Head of School

Our sincere congratulations go out to Mónica Gilbert-Sáez and Rotterdam International Secondary School (RISS) for this appointment.

Mónica Gilbert-Sáez joins the RISS from Island School of Hong Kong, where she currently serves as Vice Principal and Head of Upper School. Ms. Gilbert-Sáez has considerable academic qualifications, extensive leadership skills and a wealth of experience with international curricula, collaborating in introducing and developing new curricula. She sees herself as a “doer, compelled to challenge what needs to be changed and enhance what is outstanding, all with the purpose of enhancing the experiences and future life chances of young people”.

At Island School, Mónica has initiated and led a strengthening of the student voice whether that be via student elections, opportunities for student leadership and organisation or the reworking of the teaching and learning policy, which they describe as ‘Learning Journey’, a powerful statement of what they are about as a school written with and by their students and teachers.

RISS selected CIS Leadership Searches, represented by Dr. Ilse Huijskens, Recruitment Services Advisor and Pauline O’Brien, Director of Career & Recruitment Services, to lead the search for Head of School, in a process involving the faculty, staff members, parents, student associations, and the selection committee.

CIS received 34 initial applications. In consultation with the Selection Committee of RISS, a process of careful evaluation ensued, matching the skills, experiences and philosophies of the candidates against the needs of the school; to continue to thrive and challenge itself to provide the very best education to its students. CIS was able to draw a long-list of outstanding, international candidates. Contending candidates were personally video-interviewed by CIS and reviewed by its global team, to ensure that each of the 14 candidates CIS put forward was a potential match.

The Selection Committee shortlisted 5 candidates to interview, subsequently inviting 2 finalists to visit the school. The final interviews of the candidates at RISS were attended by Pauline O’Brien and Ilse Huijskens, who acted as moderators and offered professional support and advice to both the Selection Committee and Mónica.

Rob Fens, Principal of the Wolfert van Borselen School Group: "We have been greatly impressed with the diligence of the procedures carried out by CIS and were also impressed by the quality of candidates with whom the selection committee spoke. During the whole process there was continuous close contact with Pauline O'Brien and Ilse Huijskens on the progress of the talks and the appraisal of candidates. CIS has done excellent work. RISS looks forward to a bright future with Mónica Gilbert as director."

Mónica Gilbert-Sáez: "It was a pleasure and a professionally stimulating exercise to work with CIS. Dr. Ilse Huijskens and Pauline O’Brien guided me throughout the process, being an integral part from start to finish. From pre-screening to final interviews – they were there every step of the way, supporting me and the school. I have not witnessed such depth of service to date and it was a huge help to me. I am delighted with the outcome. RISS is a wonderful school with an exciting future ahead and it is an honour to have been selected to serve the school and its community in this way."

RISS is excited about this new appointment and looks forward to welcoming Mónica Gilbert-Sáez to their school on 1 August 2017.
