Carey is a caring co-educational community in which students are encouraged to enjoy learning, respect each other and become responsible global citizens. An exceptionally broad range of academic subjects, sporting and co-curricular activities caters for individual differences in interest and ability.
The Year 12 academic results regularly place Carey among the top schools in Australia, with commensurately high tertiary placements. Pastoral Care has a high priority and the structure of the School aims to ensure no student is overlooked. House Mentors are supported by a pastoral care team that includes chaplains, nurses, psychologists and careers advisors. All staff work to develop the students’ interpersonal skills and self-confidence.
Facilities are excellent throughout the School. Music concerts and drama productions make use of the fully-equipped theatre at the Kew campus. Coaching and competition in 22 sports is centred on the extensive sporting complex at Bulleen, and Toonallook, Carey’s outdoor education site in Gippsland, provides introductory experiences to a structured program, which forms part of the core curriculum and culminates at Year 10 with a choice of camps.
Facilities enhancing the Senior School’s pre-tertiary environment include a canteen and adjacent large, covered courtyard, specialist science facilities, a lecture theatre, art and graphics studios, and media studios with editing suites.
The International Baccalaureate Diploma is a highly regarded alternative to the Victorian Certificate of Education. Both programs provide a broad range of subjects enhanced by practical experiences and visiting speakers.
Computers are integrated across the curriculum. All students from Year 7 to Year 10 have their own laptop computer and use wireless technology.
Middle School’s motto of ‘Challenge and Choice’ is expressed in a range of interdisciplinary studies and an exceptionally broad range of optional studies tailored to engage adolescents and allow them to explore their own interests and abilities.
Kindergartens at both campuses have discrete facilities but enjoy the benefit of proximity to facilities at the Junior Schools. Inquiry-based learning and specialist Art, Music and Physical Education classes in both Junior Schools ensure the early years of learning are exciting and challenging. The Donvale campus caters for children from 3-year-old kindergarten to Year 6 and the Kew campus for 3-year-old kindergarten to Year 12. Before and after school care is provided.
Carey is a Christian, co-educational school which welcomes families of all faiths. |
