Bendigo South East College (formerly, Flora Hill Secondary College) was established on its present site in 1956. In the years since it has developed a tradition of excellence in academic results, sports, music and community service.
During the four years of study at the College, students will be involved in a curriculum balanced across all sixteen Domains. At years 9 and 10, students study a combination of core units and electives, giving them the opportunity to maintain a broad range of future options while pursuing individual interests.
The range and number of academic and co-curricular awards won by students and staff at State and National levels are evidence of the College’s position as one of Victoria’s leading schools.
The College has a range of excellent facilities including:
- New adminstraion and Year 7 & 8 Neighbourhood buildings
- A three court indoor stadium
- State-of-the-art computer facilities
- A well equipped library and resource centre
- Access to close by community facilities for activities including athletics and swimming.
The College is currently working with the other Bendigo 7-10 schools to implement the Bendigo Education Plan which will see the remainder of the College in brand new facilities in 2011-12.
The College has a comprehensive range of student support services to ensure that the full range of student abilities are appropriately nurtured. The Student Management motto states that, ‘We believe all students are important and can be successful and we won’t give up until every one of them is’. The College is strongly promoted as a Community of Life Long Learners, with parents as an integral group in the partnership.
The College has a well established Code of Conduct. The program is proactive in teaching students that ‘All individuals will be valued and treated with respect’. Discipline is seen as a learning opportunity. Students make right their mistakes through relevant consequences.
