Brighton Primary School was established in 1875 and is situated in the residential bayside suburb of Brighton, 12 kilometres from the CBD. The school has two main buildings and separate facilities for specialist areas.
The Senior School has been extended to accommodate the school’s steady growth and the Junior School is housed in a classic 1910 Federation style building.
A Community Centre houses the Out of School Hours Program (BPOSH), Sports’ Centre, the Canteen and the Uniform Shop.
Students have access to the extensive grassed areas, shade trees, sporting facilities and equipment with separate playing areas for senior and junior students.
Brighton Primary’s mission is “To provide an international centre for learning where excellence, high achievement and creativity will enable all students to contribute to the global community.”
The school is accredited by the Council of Internationally Accredited Schools Australia (CIASa) in partnership with CIS and will become a member of CIS on 1st July 2008. The school is an authorised IB school offering the Primary Years program in conjunction with the Victorian Essential Learning Standards.
The curriculum is enhanced by the addition of many extra curricula activities encompassing physical, intellectual and artistic pursuits. These include activities such as Swimming, Interschool sport, Bike Education, Camps, the Perceptual Motor Program, Life Education, Wise Ones, Drama and Musical Performances both instrumental and choral. Specialist teachers are provided for Music, Visual Arts, LOTE, Physical Education, and Reading Recovery. In addition a full-time Librarian is employed and an Early Years Co-ordinator manages the Prep - Year 4 literacy program. Electronic Whiteboards and computers are available in all teaching spaces enabling Learning Technologies to be used as a tool in all curriculum areas.
Parent involvement is high through membership of School Council and its sub committees, Parents’ Club, Canteen, classroom support, excursions, sport, the Perceptual Motor Program, Uniform shop, working bees, fundraising, and family social events. Substantial fundraising by parents and the wider community has enabled the school to acquire first class facilities such as centres for Visual and Performing Arts, Science and Technology , Physical Education and Out of School Hours |
