Adelaide High School celebrated its centenary in 2008 and is Australia's first free state high school. It is the only public school situated in the City of Adelaide. The site is heritage listed, surrounded by parklands and is easily accessible by public transport.
Adelaide High School is South Australia’s Special Interest Language School. It offers seven Languages other than English: French German, Chinese, Japanese Italian Modern Greek and Spanish. The school also offers Cricket and Rowing Programs of Excellence as entry options for students in Year 8. A Hearing Impaired Centre is part of the school, providing mainstream support for students who have been assessed as having bi-lateral hearing loss.
The school’s population is diverse, with 62% identifying with a non-English speaking background. There are 70 International Students enrolled in the school in the Study Abroad or Graduate Programs. Adelaide High School has sister schools with secondary schools in Biella Italy and Osaka Japan, and nationally with Melbourne Boys High School and the Mac.Robertson Girls High School in Melbourne, Victoria. Students have also taken part in study tours to Greece, Spain, New Caledonia and France to broaden their linguistic and cultural understandings. The school has been invited on four consecutive occasions to take part in the Pan Hellenic Games in Serres Greece, where students from Greek background compete in a school Olympiad in the spirit of friendship.
The school offers a wide range of curricular and co-curricular programs and a number of student leadership opportunities including Prefects, Student Representative Council, Interact Club, and Peer Leaders. |
