CIS is delighted to announce that Paul McKenzie will be joining the International School of Bergen (ISB), Norway, as their new Director. Our sincere congratulations go out to Paul and ISB for this excellent appointment.

Paul joins ISB from Fukuoka International School, Japan, where he is currently serving as the Secondary School Principal.

Paul left his native New Zealand in 1991 to teach ESL in Japan. After graduating from teachers college in Canada, he taught in Ontario from 1999-2004 before taking up a position as ICT Coordinator at A’Takamul International School in Kuwait. After Kuwait, in 2008, Paul began as Learning Community Director at the International School of Belgrade in Serbia. Prior to Fukuoka, from 2013-2016, Paul was the Secondary School Principal and Curriculum Coordinator at the International School of Ouagadougou.

While assuring the ISB community about his eagerness to learn Norwegian, Paul had this to say about his international experiences:

'Through my many roles supporting learning and teaching in international schools, I have witnessed how progressive practices in education help young people unlock their potential while exploring numerous ways of contributing both locally and globally. Building great memories for our students while preparing them for life beyond school is the major focus of my career.'

His wife, Jennie, a former IB librarian, will join Paul. They have been married for 22 years and have a son and a daughter.

ISB selected CIS Leadership Searches, represented by Pauline O’Brien, Director of Career & Recruitment Services, to lead the search for a Director, in a process involving the faculty, staff members, parents, student associations, and the ISB Board. In consultation with ISB, a process of careful evaluation, matching the skills, experiences and philosophies of the candidates against the needs of the school, enabled CIS to draw a long list of 11 outstanding, international candidates from an initial 56 applicants. Each long-listed candidate was personally video-interviewed by CIS and reviewed by its global team, to ensure that each candidate CIS put forward to ISB was a potential match. The school then selected 5 finalists to interview, subsequently inviting 3 to visit the school before selecting Paul McKenzie.

Ekatarina Mohn, Chair of the ISB Board: 'ISB is pleased with the support that CIS and Pauline O´Brien have provided. The process has been supported by high levels of professionalism, dedication, and thoroughness. Along with delivering a long list of high class suitable candidates CIS has assisted the process with personalised and highly competent guidance throughout.'

Paul McKenzie: 'From outset to successful conclusion, CIS, represented by Pauline O’Brien, carried out a friendly, personalized and supportive search process. All in all, the most hands-on candidate experience of my career so far.'

International School of Bergen is excited about this new appointment and looks forward to welcoming Paul McKenzie to their school in August 2018.
